No Plans=A Productive Day

I had no plans at all today. Last night I did the two chores on my to do list so I felt at ease. I woke up fairly early for a Saturday, especially because I didn't have to wake up at 8:30 am. Since it was early I decided to get a bike ride in before the day got hot. I rode down to 25th street to see if they had started doing the farmer's market. Nope, so I just rode around aimlessly. Which was fine. I wanted to eat brunch at Slackwater Pub and Pizzeria, but they didn't open until 11 am. Which is probably a good thing, I have plenty of food at home and shouldn't be out wasting $12 on brunch.

After my bike ride I made ceviche de jaiba. It was really good. I could have kept eating, but I had to stop after 5. I also had a cup cake. My favorite cake is yellow with chocolate frosting.

I started working on planning our  free  cruise. Please don't ever believe that shit. NOTHING, NOTHING is free.

Then I wandered around by car this time. I went to deposit a check at Kent's Market and bought some pop because now is the time to stock up while it's on sale for the holiday. After that I drove to my mom's house. Lately I've been looking for houses out in the country and ended up driving around the parking lot of my old elementary.

My mom was sweet, she loves by feeding so she made me food. Then I visited with my grandparents which included giving my grandpa a lesson on how to use is iPad and cutting my grandma's toenails.

shrimp scampi, bread, salad

I cleaned my carpets and now here I am messing around online. What a nice day, no plans, but fairly productive.

Throwback Thursday

Stela's Birthday Prank
This picture was taken June 28, 2007 9:57 PM. The year before while Stela and her family were in California we removed everything out of her room, except for her bed frame with a Bible placed in the middle. We figured it would be a big pain because you know when you're coming back from vacation you can't wait to sleep in you own bed.

We had to top that so we had Sister Norma call Stela and tell her off for encouraging Lorena, the girl in the black shirt to get an abortion. Stela had no idea what Norma was talking about which apparently made Stela cry because she was so rude to her. Later that night Lorena showed up at Stela's house asking if she could spend the night because her parents kicked her out. The rest of us were hiding on the porch listening. Lorena acted all paranoid and asked Stela what the noises were on the porch. Stela just dismissed it thinking it was the dogs. Lorena finally convinced her to look outside and there we were with a birthday cake. It was me, Jessica, Lorena, Alex and my brother who showed up later for cake. I'm pretty sure this was for her 16th birthday.

Here's a video of her reaction. It's kind of long and probably only funny to me. It contains a lot of giggling and bad words.

I got the idea for Throwback Thursday from a blog I follow. Just two in love...
I have tons of pictures and thought it would be a fun way to reminisce.

Just a side note I've always hated the word THROWBACK, but throwback thursday is a good alliteration so I'm keeping that title.

Homework

Yesterday I was going to post this picture on Instagram and possibly Facebook.

I've never done so much homework in my life.
Seriously all day Sunday and after work until midnight.
I'm tired and we need toilet paper.

Fortunately my phone was dying so I had time to think before posting. I thought about how hard it would be to sit down for 5 hours and write if I had kids and how new parents are probably more exhausted. I'm lucky to have the opportunity to be in this master's program. It's my first semester and it's been fun. I like my cohort and look forward to getting to know everyone more. I've finished two of the three classes this semester. One big professional writing project left and I'll be done with my very first semester.

Our Health Is A Blessing

I had the chance to visit with my cousin's wife Angie a few times this week. She is in the hospital battling a range of ailments that cancer has brought upon her body.

Today I stopped in to wish her a happy birthday and chat with her and her husband Bobby. I can't imagine having to see my spouse go through such pain and suffering, but hearing their testimony and seeing their faith was so inspiring.  Angie said, "our health is a blessing." Too often I take my health, husband and family for granted. I hope to be better at appreciating my many blessings, because life can change in an instant. If you pray please take the time to ask for healing and comfort for Angie and her family. If you would like to read her story and keep in contact with her throughout this journey go here.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

The time came for me to say goodbye to my beautician. She's done some vibrant transformations on my appearance. I went from dark brown, virgin hair to red and black.

The most striking service I got was eyelash extensions. She would always mention them to me, but I never wanted to do it because of the cost and I was worried that it would ruin my natural lashes. I finally gave in last November when she ran a special for $80 instead of the usual $150.

This sounds so vain but I didn't want to give up the eyelashes. I really like them and it feels good to be pampered and chat for a bit. She was right it makes the most difference to your appearance and it was very  low maintenance which was perfect for me because I don't wear make-up.

The number one reason I decided to call it quits is because it's $40 every two weeks . I always said I'd quit if we had a change in income. Although we can still afford it we came to the decision that we would cut out two unnecessary expenses, eyelashes and the supersonic car wash pass for an extra $105 that can go towards savings and tuition.
