Winter Things We Enjoy

The sun came out on Saturday to put us at 51 degrees here in Ogden. I woke up early with a lot of drive. I cleaned and ran some errands then met up with my husband for lunch at Lucky Slice.

After lunch and grocery shopping we threw our gear in the truck and headed up the mountain for some night boarding. 

I feel like I've been busy lately and haven't given Jose much of my time so it was nice to spend time cuddling on the couch and doing things we enjoy. 

Share the Love & the Food

I’m surrounded by wonderful women who cook up delicious meals with love and share them.

My Sunday morning started with a drop off from my mother-in-law. She made barbacoa for church and set aside some for us. It was perfect with my eggs. 

Our second meal of the day was over at my mom’s friend, Virigina's, house. She recently started cooking and is doing an amazing job preparing meals and hosting guests.

 I got to see my Tia Chelo, Tio Nacho, Sophee, Keisha, and Nene two days in a row. We had a fun time playing loteria.

Then Virginia busted out la medicina and we had a nice chat. I love hearing consejos from older people, whether I agree with them or not, I like hearing about their experiences and perspective on life. 

It snowed big, fat, beautiful flakes so while Jose cleaned the snow I cleaned inside. It was the best way to end the weekend—clean house, plowed driveway, full belly, amazing husband, and an annoyingly, loveable cat. 

Slippery Day in Northern Utah

I heard on the news that we would be getting freezing rain, I questioned what freezing rain was, you know how some rain water feels warm, I assumed this meant the water was going to be freezing cold. I didn't actually think it meant that when it hits anything it would instantly freeze. That’s what happened here! I've never seen anything like it. Everyone at work was being over dramatic not wanting to leave for lunch because, “their cars were frozen to the ground,” I’M SURE! Anyway, I had things to do so I ventured out. It was dangerous, but I’m glad I got to go out and see this phenomenon of freezing rain.

Ice

Ice

Everything turned to ice. Cars had a thin sheet of ice and icicles hanging off that looked like a beards. Streets and parking lots became skating rinks. Unfortunately we saw a lady fall in our work parking lot. Remember you have to distribute your body weight and walk like a penguin.

When I got home Jose was recording as I got out of my car and skating to the door. Our driveway is completely iced over. 

Weekend Recap

It was one of those nice weekends that made me feel rejuvenated enough to take on another week.

Friday I went to a Zumba fundraiser for the autistic school I mentioned working for in my last post. The weather was horrible that night so the turn out wasn’t as great as the year before. It was my first time trying Zumba because I didn’t want to give into the hype.  I was amazed with the instructors’ dancing skills, I could’ve watch for hours if it didn’t make me look like a creep. My dancing skills are negligible. I overheard some woman saying she didn’t get the last routine because she’s not Latin, let me tell you, I’m Latina and couldn’t even get it. Overall I had a lot of fun and loved feeling the pain in my legs.

Saturday morning we didn’t sleep in until noon like usual, instead we woke up early to go work play in the snow.

Piled High

Jose was plowing the neighbors walk and he invited him over for tequila shot. He wouldn't take no for an answer. He shared that his wife was diagnosed with cancer and given two weeks to live. She's been using herbal remedies and has passed that two week mark. I felt really bad that I didn't even know she was ill. Jose and I talked about how hard it would be knowing your spouse doesn't have much longer. I don't know what to do or say to the neighbors, but I feel like I should do something.

We started Lost on Netflix and watched the whole first season, 23 episodes. It was nice to relax, but the laziness got to me. I felt so unproductive so I got the drive to go grocery shopping, pack my snacks for the week, clean out the fridge and put my Christmas tree away just so I wouldn't feel like the whole day was a waste.

Decking The Halls

I got to decorate at two houses this year. 

The first place was in California where the kids picked out a real Christmas tree. I've never had a real tree before, so I had a lot of fun looking for the perfect one. The smells were amazing. Lani helped her uncle Jose set the tree up and Leah did the rest. Jimmy was very busy playing his DS, but he did help in the selection.

Second, was at my house. I kept it simple this year because I always feel like why do all of that work when no one see's it. The only reason I put up my tree is because my cat loves it. I added pictures of my loved ones to make it more personal and to remind me what Christmas is really about--LOVE. 

 

Is it Snowing Where You Are?

Looking out my work window at the thick flakes that were falling made me nervous to drive home. I stayed longer to let the 5 'o clock traffic clear up. Once I stepped outside I wasn't scared anymore. It hasn't been around much this year so I forgot the love I have for the white stuff. I'm enamored by seeing it, feeling it, and tromping through it so that's exactly what my my purple boots and I did.

I want to leave with a song. There's no real reason but that I like what I hear. I'm listening to City and Colour, the more songs that play the more I want to share, but if you wanted to hear songs you'd seek them out.
