A Day Full of FREE

Today was a great day full of FREE, FREE, FREE.

It all began with waking up from violent free dreams. It was nice not having teeth grinding dreams about injuring a certain piece of shit someone.

Today was national pretzel day. I got a soft, warm pretzel from Pretzelmaker for lunch.

Victoria's Secret gave out Secret Angel cards. The secret being that the card could have $10-$500 on it. For sure it was guaranteed to have $10. I was hoping for $500, but I was still satisfied with $10 to spend.

IFA was giving away a free tomato and strawberry plant just for coming in. Someday when it stops snowing I will plant a garden.

Last and perhaps my favorite surprise deal of the day was going to the CinePointe Theatre where movie tickets are $3. It turns out Tuesday night is date night so we got 2 for 1. We watched Rango and had popcorn and two drinks for the price of what one ticket would have cost at the regular theater.

Luck is largely a matter of paying attention

April is here and my car registration is due. I’ve had my rock chips repaired but one little guy went unnoticed and spread the month before registration. Not such a worry since insurance will cover a windshield. I called to discover that my deductible for glass was set to $500 and I would have to pay $299 out of pocket. I was not expecting that at all. I talked to my agent and he told me to call around to find a lower price. Most places were averaging between $150-$170.

Driving up the hill on 40th I always see this auto body shop that offers discounts for Weber State students so with hope I stopped to ask if they thought my windshield would pass. The guy said no way, but said he would make a call. He found a guy to do the windshield for $130. I felt better about that and appreciated AA Auto Glass and Liberty Auto’s help.

I called my Allstate agent so he could let me know how much more I would have to pay to lower my deductible. It was only $8 more a month, but wouldn’t cover my windshield since it cracked before the policy change…as far as I’m aware how do they know when my windshield cracked. I inquired that if a new crack were to spread tomorrow would it be covered then? I got a ridiculous negative!

By now I was getting my finances together to pay $130 for a windshield. I’ve heard my boss talk about her 2004 vehicle’s registration and I know she said she was only required to do either the emissions or inspection but I couldn’t remember which. I know I probably annoyed her because I asked her like three times to reassure myself that I heard her correctly. I could have sworn my card said both. She advised me to look it up online. I did and sure enough 2004’s only need emissions. I went out to my car to check the card which lists both, but right there in red next to safety inspection is says “not required.” I could have saved myself a lot of worry if I would have just read the card instead of glancing and assuming. Thanks to Jose my card also read that I owe $138,000 for my registration. He reminds me of those kids that turn their F’s into A’s.

Emperor Penguins

See this picture

I discovered it when Jose wanted me to order him a new debit card because his is selective about where it wants to work. I set out to put a picture of either of his pets, but I couldn’t find a good one. I searched for ocean life and penguin images. This one caught my attention because it portrays “us.”

See us--strong, healthy, successful, beautiful, majestic emperor penguins standing side by side with this crazy world spinning around us. We are living mindfully in the present keeping our gaze forward, free from distraction. We know where we are headed and what we want for our future.

Lately I’ve been too caught up with my sibling’s, cousin’s, friend’s, and co-worker’s happenings. Although I don’t agree with all of their choices I need to remember that I can only control what’s happening to me. I am a firm believer that things will go the way they should when you make the best choices for you. As I move forward all I can offer is support and hope that they find the empowerment they need to be that emperor penguin gazing forward, free from heartache and distraction, knowing where they are going and what they want for their future.

I would have loved to have this on our debit cards but it didn’t work out. Either way this photo has made an impression and provoked my thoughts.

Easter Gifts

I got a chance to do Jimmy and Leah's Easter gifts tonight. I just need to do Lani's and Janeece's and that takes care of my darling nieces and nephew.

I made Jimmy a tooth fairy pillow.

Lani says Tangled is her and Leah's favorite movie. There is no way I could make this dress fit Lani, so Leah gets it.

Don't worry Lani I have something special for you.

On another note my cat Mooch dislikes me most days. I think she was upset that Jose had to work and she had to hang out with me. So much for studying now.

My 1st Completed Sewing Project

I've completed my first sewing project. I made a baby blanket and shoes for Adalynn Guadalupe Camacho, Merly & Braulio's baby. She was born April 6, 2011 at 1:01PM, 5lbs 8oz, 18in. Here are a few pictures of my work and the new baby.

I like this new hobby and want to continue. The next projects I'm doing are Easter gifts for my nieces and nephew. I only have two weeks so I better get a move on. I will write more about it later. I don't want to spoil the surprise.
