Thursday Treat: U

Every Thursday my co-workers and I take treats that start with a different letter of the alphabet. This week was the letter U. One of my co-wokers called pineapple upside down cake, but then decided she didn't have time so she said I could make it. I couldn't think of anything else that started with U so I agreed.

Last night I was feeling lazy and more interested in sewing than baking, so I did some early morning baking. Thanks to my mom for bringing me eggs and the recipe.

Stemmed maraschino cherries cost more than ones with the stemmed removed.

I Hope It's All In My Head

I was surprised by how many different prints and scraps I had.

I found a cute sewing project on Pinterest that uses fabric scraps. It's a surprise so I can't show you until  September 19th.

The tutorial gave the option of using glue so the fabric won't fray. I bought some and the instructions say to pierce the tip with a fine pin. I was struggling to get the pin all the way through the tip. I used my teeth to pull off the tip so I could stab from the bottom up. Glue squirted out onto my lips. I freaked out because instantly they felt numb. I read the bottle to see if it was toxic. Sure enough it says if it's swallowed you should induce vomiting and call poison control. I made sure to spit and rinse my lips, but can't be 100% sure that some didn't get ingested. I resumed sewing but I swear I started feeling sick to my stomach and dizzy. I can't decide if it was all in my head or the glue. I felt nauseous and kind of wanted to make myself throw up, but I didn't.

I'm pretty sure I was okay and well enough to make dinner. I finally made rice that was edible. Probably because I skipped the brown rice and used white.

Morning Ride

Today was our first time up Ogden Canyon on our motorcycles. I'm such a wimp sometimes, but I'm glad Jose pushes me because I always end up having a good time. We stopped at The Oaks for brunch. After eating we rode around Pineview Dam and down the North Ogden Divide.

We stopped and hiked for a bit. We saw an old car that probably ran off the rode long ago and found some bones.

It's been a great weekend. I hope yours was just as enjoyable. I know many of us will be starting school, going to work, and enjoying the last bit of summer. I'm ready for it all. Have a great week!

A Happy Heart ♥

I've been down all weekend, but seeing my niece made my heart so happy. I was very standoffish at first because I didn't want to feel the rejection of her not knowing me, but she warmed up quickly. She's so sweet and full of love. She kept going around the room hugging everyone.

Look Who's Moving to Bolivia & Chicago

This weekend I said adiĆ³s to two inspirational men. I’m excited for the new experiences they're going to have and wish them the best. Don't give up and remember that there are people back home who love and support you.

Saul
Saul is on his way to Bolivia to serve a mission for the LDS church for two years. I’m really excited for him to be doing something positive with his time. I think missions are great for boys because they move out of mommy’s house and learn sacrifice and independence. Saul really impressed me with the speech he gave on Sunday at church. He was well prepared and is a natural public speaker. I’m going to miss walking over to Smith’s on my lunch break to hanging out and catch up. I look forward to receiving emails soon about his journey. Here are a few picture from his farewell events.

Luis
I met Luis about 8 years ago when we both belonged to the Apostolic Assembly.  We’ve had some fun and strange times. I can’t express enough how proud I am of his academic success and personal growth. He recently graduated from the University of Utah and is now on his way to Chi-Town to get his Ph.D. at Northwestern University.

Back when Luis was in high school I had to help him with his math.
Homework got boring so we made rice krispies.

Bye Luis!
Yay for technology I'll be able to keep in touch with both of them. I can't wait to see fun pics on Instagram Luis.

His & Hers

Jose and I are having so much fun this summer cruising around on our bikes. I bought mine from my mom's friend for a steal of deal. It's a perfect bike to learn on and I love the color. Jose is a KSL pro and bought his from a guy in Kaysville. I say pro because he found me a helmet and boots for a great price. I just don't have the patience to look and barter with people.

After Jose got his Harley I realized I won't be on this little Honda for long. His is so loud and ballsy, I'm bound to upgrade next summer.

I ride my motorcycle to work several days a week and love that I've been forced to practice minimalism. I have two small saddle bags and can't take all of the junk I would usually take if I had my car. I usually only take my lunch, gym clothes, water bottle, phone, work access key, license, and some money when I ride to work. NO PURSE and it's been great. I shouldn't be surprised I really don't need all of the stuff I throw in my purse.

My next favorite thing about riding is all of the looks we get. So many people are thrilled seeing motorcycles. We rode down Washington Boulevard the other night and I saw some of the biggest smiles from people driving beside us. Their smiles made me smile.

Third, I like the social aspect and camaraderie. Along with smiles from drivers I love, LOVE when I receive a greeting from another biker. I know it sounds lame, but it really makes me happy and giddy.

Last, I enjoy that's it's just the two of us having a fun summer with minimal responsibilities--working hard and playing hard.

Throwback Thursday: I love the dentist

Brace Face
I went to the dentist yesterday and I loved it, it feels so good to have extra clean teeth. The dentist scared me when he said he could see 3 cavities, I was already making up a goal to be cavity free on the next visit, but he was just kidding. He did spot a chipped tooth though. He informed me of a chipped tooth at my last visit too. I have no idea when I chipped them and wouldn't have even noticed if he hadn't told me.  I do my best to take care of my teeth because my parents often reminded me that they paid a lot of money for them. I spend too much time thinking and preparing for the future, so I know I don't want to be toothless or have painful procedures. Prevention over intervention for me!
